Ask the Maestro a question.

How do you choose your guest artists for each performance? - 11/20/2007
Guest artists for the LVP are chosen from the enormous selection of both established and "up-and-coming" artists available by applying some or all of the following criteria: (1) what selection of artists will help us to create a balanced season (i.e., not all pianists, all strings, etc.); (2) what selection of artists will our audience find interesting and exciting; (3) what selection of artists will, as a whole, fit into the LVP's budget for the following season; (4) finding a balance between known, established artists and exciting newer artists; (5) which soloists are willing to play repertoire which fits into the overall season repertoire plan and will be exciting for current and future LVP audiences.

Interesting question about orchestra size... - 10/6/2007
A recent New York to Las Vegas transplant has asked me about the size of the orchestra she saw on-stage during our opening weekend. She asked if this was a reduced size orchestra, and whether or not the size of the orchestra is dictated specifically by the composer. There are really two answers to this question. The woodwinds, brass, and percussion of the orchestra are dictated specifically by the composer. There can be no more and no less than the precise number called for by the score. The size of the string orchestra, however, is dependent upon several factors. Among these factors, all of which contributed to the size of the orchestra you saw this past weekend, are (1) the time period/musical era of the composition, (2) the size of the stage (a serious consideration in Ham Hall), and (3) the financial abilities of the institution.

Introduction - 7/2/2007
I come to the Las Vegas Philharmonic as a veteran of a 20 year career, having been on the podium of orchestras throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. I began my tenure with the Philharmonic on July 1, 2007.

My recent guest conducting engagements for the 2006-2007 included a return engagement with the Slovenska Filharmonija. In Slovenska, I conducted the opening concert of the 14th World Saxophone Congress. Furthermore, I appeared with the Las Vegas Philharmonic in October and managed to lead two other symphony orchestras - which as been a whirlwind of activities!
